When we had the opportunity to host Ariane Cross, a prestigious running event with 700 engineers from various European companies in the space industry, we saw it as a chance to create a memorable added value for our visitors in Trollhättan.
With Trollhättan’s rich engineering history and connection to space technology, as well as our status as “Trollywood” and organizer of world-class races during Trollhättan Action Week, we wanted to give our guests a unique experience. We knew our visitors would appreciate an insight into the place’s history and its relevance to their field.
Upon arrival at their hotel rooms, all participants received a pair of VR glasses and a QR code. When they scanned the code, they were transported to a virtual tour of the running course along the Trollhätte Canal Park. Along the route, intriguing personalities appeared and shared their connections to Trollhättan. Actors portraying figures like Nicole Kidman, Nils Ericsson, and Gunnar W Larsson guided visitors through a fascinating narrative of the city’s history and its ties to space technology.
In the evening during dinner, participants also had the opportunity to meet the CEO of Film i Väst, representatives from GKN Aerospace, and the rector of University West. They shared inspiring insights and future visions.
By integrating our city’s history and contemporary glamour with the event, we created an unforgettable experience for the participants. They left Trollhättan with a sense of belonging and appreciation for our unique city, as well as new knowledge about both our history and future vision
The Swedish Space Forum conference gathers key players from Sweden and beyond, featuring prominent international speakers from research, academia, industry, and politics. Trollhättan, a strong player in space and aerospace, provided a unique backdrop for this event.
To celebrate, we hosted an evening mixer with a Star Wars theme, welcoming guests with characters like Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and Stormtroopers, setting an exciting tone for the conference. The city was decorated with posters and banners themed “Space is not taking it too far for us,” creating buzz well before the event.
GKN Aerospace contributed rocket nozzles turned into book stands, piquing curiosity around town. One of our highlights was a parallel seminar with Sweden’s first astronaut, Christer Fuglesang, inspiring 500 eighth-grade students about careers in engineering and space exploration.
We also focused on students and young professionals, creating tailored activities and networking opportunities with potential employers. Start-ups within the space sector were given a platform to showcase their innovations, adding unique content to the conference.
Exciting site visits to key players like GKN Aerospace, the Production Technology Centre at Innovatum District, and University West were arranged, highlighting Trollhättan’s expertise in the field.
Politicians at local, regional, and national levels attended, experiencing firsthand Trollhättan’s significance in the space arena. These efforts not only enriched the conference but also instilled pride among residents and participants.

“Smaka på Trollhättan” is an annual event that attracts thousands of visitors, born from the Swedish Chefs Association’s desire to hold their annual meeting in Trollhättan in 2019.
Recognizing the potential, we transformed this meeting into a food festival, spotlighting the restaurant industry and culinary profession.
Despite the pandemic, we adapted and launched the world’s first virtual restaurant festival. Partnering with event experts, we created a unique platform where guests could cook and dine virtually with chefs.
The event featured live broadcasts, cooking duels, and inspiring seminars with top chefs like Zeina, even engaging 8th-grade students in cooking competitions to inspire future careers.
We also highlighted local businesses with live reports, digital fashion shows, art, and nature-inspired cooking sessions. A digital after-party with live bands capped off the festival, creating an interactive and memorable experience.
One notable side event was a community-wide Jerusalema dance challenge, aiming for a world record and showcasing the vibrant spirit of Trollhättan.
Through collaboration and innovation, “Smaka på Trollhättan” not only became a huge success but also positioned Trollhättan as a premier event destination.
Today, the festival draws thousands annually, involving numerous local restaurants and partners, and was even nominated for sustainable tourism awards.
This transformation has empowered Trollhättan to host conferences, events, and festivals, making it a thriving hub for culture and culinary excellence.
