Trollhättan Leads the Way: First Airport Where Planes Can Only Refuel with Renewable Fuel
Västflyg has become the world’s first airline to use the highest possible blend of renewable aviation fuel for all its flights to and from Göteborg Stallbacka Airport, located in Trollhättan. This groundbreaking initiative is supported by GKN Aerospace Sweden and renewable fuel supplier Neste.
This innovative decision sets a new global standard, providing only one refueling option: renewable fuel. Whether it’s cargo flights, passenger flights, or critical services like air ambulances, the airport is committed to sustainable aviation.
Västflyg’s CEO, Anna Petré, reflects on the journey from concept to reality, emphasizing that what began with small-scale purchases of renewable fuel has now become a full commitment to sustainable aviation. The collaboration grew with support from Mats Hultman of Neste, the leading provider of biofuel for aviation, and Martin Wänblom, CEO of GKN Aerospace Sweden, who immediately recognized the potential.
GKN, known for its work in lightweight technologies that reduce fuel consumption, sees this collaboration as a critical part of the green transition. The Mayor of Trollhättan, Peter Eriksson, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of partnerships in driving innovation and sustainability.
- This initiative will create a ripple effect, benefiting both the region’s growth and its sustainability efforts, Peter Eriksson concluded
Another milestone for Trollhättan and the region’s sustainable development!
